It's never too late: what I learned launching my first online course at 57

I recently sat down with Tracy Harris on her Mums With Hustle podcast to talk about something I don't often speak about publicly: what it actually took to build, launch and sell The Curated Home Method, my first online course.

For fifteen years I've styled homes. I know fabric, I know light, I know how to make a room feel like somewhere you want to be. What I didn't know, until this year, was how to build a digital course from nothing and actually get people to say yes to it.

So I did what I always tell my clients to do when they're not sure where to start. I committed anyway.

The doors opened, and then it went quiet

Here's the part of the story I told Tracy honestly, because I think it's the part most people leave out. I opened the doors to The Curated Home Method with a waitlist, no slick funnel, no webinar, nothing polished. And when the doors opened, nobody came. Not straight away.

What actually worked was smaller and slower than I expected. I went back to the people on that list and reached out personally, one by one. That's how the first cohort came together, ten women who wanted to learn how to style their own homes with real confidence.

Why I think this matters for anyone starting something new

I'm 57. I'd already built one business from the ground up with Cloth & Feather, and I still felt like a beginner doing this. I think that's worth saying out loud, because so many of us wait for the moment we'll feel ready, and that moment doesn't really arrive. You commit, you tell people who'll hold you to it, and then you figure the rest out as you go.

If you've been sitting on something you know how to do, whether that's styling a home, running a business, or a skill you've never quite packaged up, I hope this episode is a nudge that it's not too late to start.
