Ali's Quill Edition Twelve
It’s been a busy few weeks at the new store
We are properly settled into 56 Market Street now, and honestly, we are loving every bit of it.
One of our favourite things has become the night time windows. There is something about the store lit up after dark, the fabrics and textures glowing under the lights. If you have walked past in the evening, you will know what we mean.
We have had so many kind comments about our pretty front windows, and it means more than you know. Thank you.
This week’s window is a special one. It features our gorgeous block printed textiles, brought back from my trips to India. The colour, the hand printed detail, the stories behind each piece. If you are local, pop past and take a look. We would love to see you.
Styling Tip
The rule of 3, revisited
We talk about this one often, because it works every single time.
The rule of 3 is simple. Group objects in threes, not twos or fours. Odd numbers create visual interest because the eye cannot settle into a neat, predictable pattern. It has to move around the grouping, and that movement is what makes a space feel alive rather than static.
It is best used for:
- Styling a mantelpiece or console table
- Arranging cushions on a sofa or bed
- Grouping vases, books, or objects on a shelf
- Layering artwork or frames on a wall
The trick is to vary height, texture and scale within the group of three. A tall candle, a stack of books, a small sculptural object. Three heights, three textures, one cohesive moment.
It sounds like a small thing, but it is one of the fastest ways to make a styled space feel intentional rather than accidental.
Home Comfort
Curtains and warmth: the case for blockout lining
Winter has a way of reminding us how much curtains actually do for a home, beyond the beauty of them.
A well lined curtain is one of the most effective ways to keep warmth in and cold out. A blockout lining or a coated thermal fabric creates a barrier against draughts, especially around large windows and glass doors where heat loss is highest.
The difference is real. A properly lined curtain can transform how a room feels on a cold night, softer, quieter, and noticeably cosier. It is not just about blocking light. It is about comfort.
If your curtains are still unlined, or lined with something thin, this is the season to think about upgrading. It is one of those changes that pays you back every single evening.
